What is Teflon and why has my clothing been coated in this fabric protector?
Many modern outdoor clothing and outdoor equipment products are coated with Teflon. This begs the question: “What is a Teflon protector?”
Well, Teflon fabric protector is a coating that provides clothing and equipment with protection against stains, mud and liquids, without affecting breathability, performance, feel or appearance.
Items coated with this fabric protector will last much, much longer! Liquids hitting Teflon-treated fabric will bead up and roll off and any soil or mud can be easily brushed off once dry. Protection against liquid spills such as drinks is also provided - such spillages can easily be wiped away when blotted with a clean cloth. Basically, Teflon fabric protector is an invisible shield that repels water, liquids and soil from outdoor garments, items or equipment .
The Benefits of Teflon Coating
There are many benefits to buying Teflon coated clothing and equipment, including:
- quick drying fabric when wet
- easy to clean liquids and soil
- repels water by beading up liquids allowing it to roll off
- makes clothing and equipment more durable
- gives long lasting protection from dust, soil and stains.
Many shooting jackets and trousers, such as the Game Technical Derby Tweed Shooting Jacket and the Hoggs of Fife Kinloch tweed jacket are Teflon coated to provide extra protection and durability. Practical accessories such as hats, like the Perth Crushable Felt Hat are often Teflon-coated to offer that additional protection from the elements.
